I started my journey at Avanzar 2 years ago as a Project Coordinator, within a year I was promoted to Commercial Lead where I handle sales and financing for one of the commodities that we manufacture.  This job has allowed me to have exposure across different areas and tasks.   I am the owner of my work and my results, which encourages and pushes me to deliver and constantly improve myself.  Avanzar gives me confidence and the feeling of working for a family company where I actually have a direct impact on the company’s results.  Management is open and flexible and very supportive to their employees.   Learning and training opportunities are there for you to take them.

I am excited for what the future holds for me at Avanzar, as the company grows and expands operations to different countries, I look forward to keep developing in order to provide our customers the level of excellence that they are accustomed to.

Started with Avanzar on 2007 as a HR Supervisor at JIT.  Responsible for all HR activities while at JIT, to include month end closing, investigations, staffing and counseling and terminations.  Promoted to Assistant HR Manager in 2013 remaining at JIT but assisting the HR Manager with various roles.

Promoted to HR Manager for Avanzar in 2014 with the responsibility of 6 direct reports and overseeing all HR functions to include legal responsibilities.

Married with 2 boys (Nico and Nolan) and  2 dogs (Buddy and Lexi).  Enjoy spending time with family and friends.  You only live once!

Focus Factory Manager – Metals

I started with Avanzar back in Feb 2007 through a temporary agency (IHC) as an operator in the metals Department. Then in May of 2007 I was converted from IHC to Full time Avanzar and continued to operate and learn more about my department. After 1 year as a metals operator I was given the opportunity to become a welder after passing a weld test. As a welder I learned as much as possible from those who had more experience and those who were in the quality department. In late 2009 another opportunity came around, but this time it was in a leadership position. I became a Team Leader within the metals department. After several months of being a team lead and coached by my supervisor. On Feb 2010 Bryant Moran identified a great opportunity to become a supervisor of the Metals North which built Tundra Front seat frames. In 2013 Metals went from 2 supervisor per shift 1, which I continued my journey as a metals supervisor. On Feb 2016 I was blessed with another opportunity to become the Focus Factory Manager of the Baja and Doors. I have been coached by different people throughout my career to be able to move up and understand different positions. Avanzar is known of promote people from within the organization and I have been blessed on being one of them.

Berto Guerra, CEO

Berto Guerra is Chairman – CEO of Avanzar Interior Technologies GP, LLC., an automotive interiors manufacturing company and Co-Owner of three VBM Auto Group Dealerships, Toyota of Boerne, Nissan of San Marcos and Nissan of NewBraunfels. He retired as Vice President-Legislative and Constituency Affairs for SBC (now AT&T). His responsibilities included oversight of legislative activity in SBC’s US region, PAC (Political Action Committee) solicitation and monitoring, and external education for elected officials, regulators and 3rd Party constituency groups.

Guerra began his career with Southwestern Bell in 1978 as a business office supervisor. He progressed through a number of positions in customer services and external affairs. Prior to his last assignment, Guerra was Executive Vice President-National Constituency Relations overseeing minority, disabled, education, consumer and senior constituent groups. He also served as Executive Vice President-External Affairs for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, managing director-corporate development for SBC Communications Inc. and as President of Southwestern Bell International Development.

Before joining the SBC family of companies, Guerra served in an owner or manager capacity for various hotel, restaurant and movie theater businesses in Texas.

Guerra has long been active in many professional, civic, and scholastic organizations:

  • Awarded Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year 2015
  • Awarded Ernst & Young Central Texas Master Entrepreneur of the Year 2015
  • Appointed Chairman of San Antonio Water Systems ( SAWS) 2011 to present.
  • Awarded Distinguished Alumnus Texas State University-2007.
  • Awarded 2007 Business Owner of the year, San Antonio
  • Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
  • Serves on the UTSA Development Board, from 1998 to present.
  • Currently serves as Vice Chairman of El Centro Del Barrio-CentroMed of San Antonio,1997 to present.
  • Currently serves as Vice Chairman and Organizer of Vantage National Bank.
  • Serves on the Board of Directors of MTC, Inc., (Mi Tierra Café).
  • Serves on the Board of Directors of M.T.C. Real Estate (a real estate development company).
  • Serves on the Board of Trustees for Abilene Christian University,
  • 2002 to present.

  • Chairman of the Free Trade Alliance Executive Committee of San Antonio, 2003 to 2006.
  • Served as Chairman 2000 for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
  • Served on the Advisory Board for Laredo National Bank, 1998 to 2007.
  • Served as a director for Cinemark USA Inc. (third largest theatre company in U.S.), 1990 to 2004.
  • Served as Director for Pizza Mgmt. Inc. ( a Pizza Hut franchisee with over 250 restaurants.), 1986 to 1992.
  • Owned and operated three family restaurants from 1968 to 1974.

Born in Roma, Texas, and raised in Corpus Christi, Guerra received a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree in Interdisciplinary Management from Texas State University in 1984. He also completed the Penn State Executive Management Program in 1991. He and his wife, Tammy, have four children and ten grandchildren.
